Chord Transposer
This chord transposer moves a chord sheet to a new key in the browser. Paste the chords, set both keys, then copy the result or download TXT and piano MIDI.
Transpose a progression in seconds
You can transpose chords online, from a short progression to a complete chord sheet.
Choose a semitone shift to see the new chord names immediately. Chords in brackets can sit inside
your own lyric lines. Use
Match input to keep the input's note spelling, or choose sharps or flats
for a consistent output. Copy the text for rehearsal notes, print the chart, or download
an SVG chart with chord diagrams alongside the plain text file and piano MIDI sketch.

Chord-sheet example: [Am] Keep the [F] rhythm moving / [C] through the [G] night
What stays the same?
The transposer preserves chord order, separators, lyric text, and each chord's quality.
A root and its explicit slash bass both move by the selected number of semitones, so
G/B remains a slash chord after the shift. The target-key controls change
the roots; Original mode remains a manual key label and does not convert major chords
to minor chords.
What is in the MIDI?
The MIDI download contains piano block chords using the chosen tempo and beats per
chord. It remains in the sounding target key; it is a practice sketch, not the source
song's rhythm or melody and not a guitar fingering transcription.
Keep a two-key reference beside your sheet with the chord transposition chart.
Supported chord symbols
The parser recognizes these 19 chord qualities: major, minor, 7, maj7, m7, dim, aug, sus2,
sus4, 6, m6, add9, m9, 9, 11, 13, dim7, m7b5, and 5. Common aliases include
C, CM, Cmaj; Am, Amin,
A-; Cmaj7, CM7, CΔ7; and
C+, C°, C°7, Cø7. Add a slash note such
as C/E when the bass should be explicit.
Example: a +2 shift turns C G/B Am7 F into
D A/C# Bm7 G.
FAQ
Can I paste a full chord sheet with lyrics?
Yes. Put chord symbols in square brackets, such as [Am] or
[G/B], alongside your own lyric lines. Plain chord-only lines can use
spaces, commas, barlines, or new lines. On lines with bracketed chords, only the bracketed parts transpose. Audio uploads are not part of this tool.
What if I do not know the original key?
Use Suggest original key to compare chord tones and first/last-chord clues, then verify the suggestion by ear. You can
always choose the original key and mode manually; a suggestion is not a certainty about
the song's tonal center.
Can I transpose a minor-key song?
Yes. Set Original mode to Minor, choose the original and target roots, and keep the
chord qualities you entered. The semitone shift still moves each root and explicit slash
bass by the same amount.
Why does my output use a different note name?
Note names can have more than one conventional spelling. Choose Sharps or Flats when you
want one spelling family; Match input keeps the spelling style available from your input.
What happens to spacing when chord names change length?
Separators and line breaks are retained, but a longer name can move the text that follows
it. Bracketed chords keep their place in a lyric line as the chord text changes.
What does the capo setting change?
A capo value adds a separate chord-shape view: the shapes are lowered by that many
frets while the main sounding result remains in concert pitch. MIDI still plays the
sounding chords.
Does the MIDI preserve the original arrangement?
No. It places piano block chords at your selected tempo and beat length so you can hear
the transposed harmony. It does not contain the source recording's arrangement, melody,
or guitar fingering.
